 Committee work usually accounts for more of an MPs time than sitting in the parliamentary chamber. Parliamentary committees conduct inquiries into specified matters. Senate Committees The Australian Senate, like the United States’ Senate, has a very powerful committee system. Senator Eggleston is chair of the Environment, Communications, Technology and the Arts legislation committee. Joint Committees There are also joint committees made up of Senators and Members of the House of Representatives. Senator Eggleston is a member of two joint committees. The prestigious joint Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee – is the largest committee in the Australian Parliament. Senator Eggleston is also a member of two of its subcommittees – namely the foreign affairs committee and the trade committee. In addition Senator Eggleston is a member of the joint Migration Committee.  |
